How Many Pairs of Underwear Should a Woman Own?
Here’s a question for you: How many pairs of underwear should a woman own? The answer really depends on many
factors, including their lifestyle. Some women collect more underwear than phone numbers in their little black
books. Others…not so many.
If you live minimally with a few essentials and a capsule wardrobe, your
underwear probably reflects the same. But if you love fashion, you might have an entire horde of stylish panties in every style, color and lace.
How many pairs of underwear should you own? While there’s no right or wrong definitive answer, Leonisa is here
to offer some insight into the question and advice that will keep a consistent rotation. That way, you will
never find yourself without a clean pair of panties (or a sexy thong, for that
matter).
How Many Pairs of Underwear Should Women Own?
As a good rule of thumb, a three-week supply of panties offers a happy medium. This nearly month-long supply adds up to about 20 pairs of underwear. But for some women, even this amount can be stretching it. Many factors, such as sweaty exercise, wardrobe changes and even menstrual cycles, can push you to the edge of–let’s admit it, ladies–turning your undies inside out.Instead of doing so, it’s essential to have enough on hand, and then some. For instance, you may find yourself in a busy work week and simply can’t find spare time to do laundry. You may also discover one weekend that your washing machine is on the fritz and broken down. Or, if you live in an apartment building, you may be competing with fellow neighbors at the only time during the weekend you can find to do laundry. You may also forget you are nearing the end of your panty stash and be in no mood to do chores. In any case, you will need to stretch out your days a bit further. (Unless, of course, you’re cool with going commando.)
When this happens, it helps to have around five more, which reaches 25 pairs of underwear. Any less than 20-25 and you might be pushing your current underwear to the brink. When you force your panties to be washed frequently, you can wear them out quicker, which means you’ll have to invest in a new pair much sooner than expected. The elastic can become less bouncy and the bum shape may become droopy.
According to one 2012 study, some women keep an average of 34 pairs of panties. However, this entire sum is divided into 20 everyday pairs, but with an additional 14 special pairs that allow them to feel sexy, confident and to engage in more–ahem–fun bedroom activities.
So, give or take 20 to 34 pairs, this number works for the majority of women’s lifestyles. While there are exceptions to the rule, this is the general estimate you should aim for. However, more important than how many pairs of underwear you own, you need to know when to throw them out and replenish one with a new pair.
When to Replace Underwear
Some women love to keep an extensive collection of underwear for any opportunity that may arise or to suit any piece of wardrobe, like seamless thongs for leggings. Others prefer to purchase a cotton tighty-whitey combo pack that’s comfortable for everyday wear. Whatever suits you, the important thing is to make sure your underwear is taken care of and rotated before they begin to fall apart at the seams and get ratty. It’s important to know when it’s time to replace underwear. Replacing your underwear can reduce urinary tract infections and other vaginal-related issues. If you have a pair or two of underwear that have developed small holes or an elastic banding that has given up, keep these as a standby on days when you absolutely need to stretch out your laundry. Treat yourself and replace these older pairs with something new approximately every six months to once a year. While it’s sad to say goodbye, remember that you might find something else you love!
